What opportunities do you want to have someday but are not quite ready for today?
Do you want to start a business, or speak at conferences, or get married, or adopt a child, or help or encourage people in some specific way? You may not be ready to fulfill your dream today, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start preparing now for that someday opportunity.
It’s like you are at a well that reaches down into the reservoir of human potential. When you invest in growing a skill, growing your mindset, or growing your character, you lower the bucket into that well fill it up, and put the water into your personal tank. One day, another person comes who needs what’s in your tank. You open up and give a taste of what you have, and they realize they need it and ask if you’ll give them more. That’s opportunity that you were ready for.
Here are a few things you can do to get ready for the opportunities you desire:
– Listen to a few episodes of the Entreleadership podcast while you’re driving or use the library app Libby to check out an audio book about a business or professional development topic to help you get ready for professional opportunity.
– Find someone who is doing what you want to do; buy them lunch, dinner, or coffee; and ask them lots of good questions about how they got started and what they’ve learned. Or find a Facebook group devoted to a topic you’d like to explore and ask your questions there.
-Take a class about something you’re interested in. Community college classes are inexpensive, or you can take a class offered by the city or even online. You can even attend a seminar or watch a webinar to gather some information about your someday opportunity.
