From Our Family to Yours – May 2024

Annaliese figured out how to play the harmonica a couple weeks ago. It was one of the cutest moments in my parenting history and doubly special because I love music. I’d play a little bit on my harmonica, and then she’d play a little on hers. She took it out to the living room, played a bit for Talia the cat, and then tried to get Talia to play it.

In other cat and toddler adventures, Annaliese gave Talia a ride in her toy shopping cart. We were impressed with how relaxed Talia seemed as the baby pushed her around the living room. She’s a well adjusted cat.

Elena joined me to host an alpine open house in Crestline, and I enjoyed having her along. We stopped along highway 18 to take a picture on the Rim of the World. She was excited to see some stellar jays up there, and I was impressed that she remembered them from Wingspan, a game we’ve been playing that has cards for 900 different species of birds.

Each month, we have a family date, and last month the kids asked to have a variety of cheeses and crackers for us to share. Yum! We talked about how they’ll have to return for cheese and cracker tastings and family nights when they grow up, and I’m so thankful for the tradition of family dates and discovering this favorite family date together.

The peach and apricot trees welcomed spring with abundant flowers and small fruit growing. It looks like we’ll have a great crop this year.

We enjoyed celebrating Easter with Hannah’s family. I’m always grateful that I scored such amazing in-laws, and I’m thankful for the hope that Easter brings. If you ever want to talk about that, let me know! I’d be glad to have a conversation with you.

I’ve been rereading the book Multipliers, which is about how to maximize the collective intelligence and impact of your team. The author encourages leaders to look for the genius or superpower in each person and consider how it could be used most valuably. At one of our family meetings, I asked everyone to consider what genius or superpower they could see in the other members of our family. Everyone jumped in enthusiastically, and I’m excited for the growth that will come as our family begins naming and relying upon one another’s genius capacities.

If you’re interested in growing your ability to bring out the best in the people and groups around you, I highly recommend you read Multipliers. Here’s a link where you can check it out on Amazon:

Thanks so much for sharing a slice of your day with us, and blessings until next time!
